A new marijuana-growing operation, downtown revitalization project and growing tourism industry are promising jobs and economic growth in Merritt. But rental housing is a persistent problem. A lack of investment in new affordable housing since the 1990s has led to many people living in overcrowded or substandard basement suites. According to CMHC’s small communities report, Merritt’s rental vacancy rate is zero.
Anhart purchased this four-acre site in 2018, and is currently exploring plans for development of two buildings with a total of 76 units. The target beneficiaries will be seniors, families, people with entry-level jobs, people with disabilities, and newcomers to Canada.
