Alfred's Story of Inspiration

Since 1988, in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania, Alfred Rogers has embarked on a remarkable journey of resilience and village transformation. Anhart has been privileged to support Alfred and his growing network of community based organizations. 

Alfred’s first achievement was establishing a village pharmacy to provide essential medicines to his neighbors. He then expanded his agricultural activities by purchasing a cow and a maize processing machine, enhancing food security and livelihoods in his community. His compassion extended to supporting children affected by HIV/AIDS, offering critical care and hope.

Committed to sustainability, Alfred planted corn, a forest for timber and avocado production, and built a guesthouse to foster local tourism. He further empowered collective action by creating 21 community-based organizations in neighboring villages, fostering shared growth and prosperity.

Molthagen & Ash Families Give Back

In his 50th year, Hart Molthagen and his wife Anita decided to give back to a nearby community from their successful business profits. In 2000 they purchased and renovated a 80 single room occupancy run down building and renamed it Jubilee Rooms.

In 2004, David and Lise Ash followed the inspiration of the Molthagens and purchased and renovated the 71 room Dodson Hotel. 

Since 2002, Anhart operated and managed the renovations for the two philanthropist families and in 2013 both buildings were sold to Anhart for 50% of their fair market value.

The generosity of the Molthagens and Ashes was also the foundation of the efforts of the Community Builders Group to house 800 at risk persons in Vancouver’s core, and the creation of Clean Start, a large community contribution company that hires persons with barriers to employment.

Crystal on Top of the World

Crystal Wiebe is Anhart’s Chief Financial Officer and one of the co-founders of the Anhart global network. Not content with the office life, Crystal choose to expand Anhart’s affordable housing development capacity by obtaining senior project management skills, and by obtaining a construction license. Following a three year preparation period, Crystal founded Anhart Construction CCC Ltd, a community contribution company dedicated to building affordable multi-tenanted residential buildings, tiny homes and modular homes. 

Despite an abundance of obstacles and setbacks, Crystal never lost sign of the original goal and now leads Anhart’s team of builders and project managers from her home in Hope, British Columbia, Canada.  

Schmidtke Family Paying Forward

Women in DR Congo are at risk during pregnancy. Home births, or births in clinics with no capability to provide birthing services are often the only choices for women living in rural locations.

Canadians Ralf and Helga Schmidtke decided to do something about a critical social need on the other side of the world and provided Anhart with the funds needed to create a maternity clinic in North Kivu Province, on the eastern edge of DR Congo. 

The clinic pictured here is one of five clinic provided by Anhart philanthropists and not provides pre natal and neo natal care for 365 women in each clinic each year.
